From a service executive’s point of view, the time is now to build a sustainable service organization, both from an operational and environmental perspective. In the upcoming Aberdeen State of the Market 2009 Report, 51% of service respondents indicated that they currently have a green initiative in place, with 27% responding that they have had an initiative in place for more than three years. With a significant portion of a service organization’s environmental footprint tied directly to the operation of its service fleet, one would assume that the increased maintenance and management of vehicles would be a prioritized green initiative. However, Aberdeen’s research on service fleets indicated that environmental initiatives continue to take a back seat to cost management and service delivery priorities.Green is still a “nice to have” but there are indications that organizations are beginning to become aware of the complete cost, productivity, and green benefits that can be had from improved service resource management.
